Frenchman, Anthony J Lambert was sentenced to five years in prison for attempting to smuggle 14 grams of hashish into Bali. The young man just bowed to the court and was resigned to the verdict.

According to Detik.com, the panel of judges declared Lambert was proven to violate Article 113 of the Narcotics Law, which receives a minimum sentence of five years.

“In our judgement, the defendant has been legally and convincingly proven to have committed a narcotic crime, namely attempting to import narcotics class I type,” said judge chairman I Made Pasek at the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday (11/21/2017).

“He is sentenced to five years imprisonment and a fine of Rp 1 billion or 3 months more in prison,” continued Pasek.

“The incriminating act by the defendant is contrary to the program being intensified by the government, as well as the importation of narcotics could endanger the nation’s younger generation,” claimed Pasek, according to an article in Balipost.com.

“The defendant has asked for time to think about appealing first,” said Anthony’s attorney, Maya Arshanti at the trial.

The 23-year-old was arrested in June this year at Ngurah Rai Airport by customs officials. He came from Malaysia, and when checked 14 grams of hashish and a small plastic bag containing marijuana seeds were found in his possession. He claimed to use the drug as a cure for his injured legs.
