An Aussie tourist, Ferry Edward Barwick (51), had his wallet snatched from him by his own ojek (motorcycle cab) driver.

The incident started when Barwick, a first-time visitor to Bali, was walking from his lodging at Tree Brothers in Jalan Lumbung Sari, Kuta, Legian, and was approached by the ojek driver offering his services.

“The driver came up to him and offered to take him to bars around Seminyak,” said a source on the field, as quoted by Berita Bali, which the visitor agreed to.

After spending some time in one bar, the driver was supposed to drive Barwick back to his lodgings, but he took the man around Denpasar instead. Then in the middle of Jalan Gunung Patas, Banjar Tegal Buah, Padangsambian, the ojek driver dropped him off and asked for payment.

“When the victim took out his wallet, the suspect snatched it away from his hand and drove off,” added the source. There was AUD800 inside the wallet. The man then reported the incident to police.

Denpasar Police confirmed the incident. “When the victim was drunk and vulnerable, the criminal stole his wallet,” said Sugriwo, Head of Denpasar Police squad. “We are currently still in pursuit of the suspect.”
