The Mandiri online banking system experienced technical difficulties over the past days. Funds owned by some customers were automatically debited without any transactions made.

Bank Mandiri officials have asserted that the problems experienced by the online system were only technical issues and currently the system is back running.

“From our investigation, there were 97 customers involved in this system failure,” said Bank Mandiri Corporate Secretary Rohan Hafas when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday (7/5/2017).

Contacted separately via telephone, Deputy of Financial Services Business, Survey and Consultant Services, Ministry of State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Gatot Trihargo stated that his office has kept in contact with the management of Bank Mandiri related to problems experienced by Mandiri Online. Gatot told Kompas, the Bank Mandiri system was back on.

“The point is if there is a mistake, the funds will be replaced by Bank Mandiri. There is no problem,” said Gatot.

Gatot also stated that the management of Bank Mandiri has communicated with Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as the payment system and banking authorities.

Bank Mandiri insists it will be responsible if any errors that arise from its service system.

“There are guarantees from (Bank) Mandiri, if there are funds lost, do not worry. If it’s a bank error, the funds will be replaced by Bank Mandiri,” explained Gatot.
