A local teenager’s bizarre behaviour went viral on social media yesterday after he kissed a foreign tourist on Legian Beach. The moment the man was detained was recorded on video, which showed a bald teenager, wearing a green jacket, squatting down while covering his face with his hands while he was surrounded by many people.
“People like you ruin our good reputation and it affects us all. Let’s make the video go viral,” said the man who recorded the video. It was said that the location of the incident was Double Six Beach, which is officially known as Legian Beach.
“The young Indonesian man appeared to have wanted to get to know a foreign female tourist. He shook her hand and then kissed her on the cheek. But the woman’s boyfriend did not accept it,” said Legian Village Head, Made Madia Surya Natha, to detik.com on Tuesday.
The boyfriend punched the local visitor and the young man was then detained by members of the community. Surya also said that the incident occurred on Monday at around 11am.
“Her boyfriend punched him and to avoid further disturbances, community police and Community Empowerment Institution (LPM) secured the young man and brought him to the Village Head Office. The location was between Legian and Seminyak at around Blue Ocean Restaurant,” he added.
Questioned, he admitted that his name was Romy. “We thought that he was a crazy man because he mumbled and couldn’t answer our questions straight. He also said that he came from Padang and he acted normal after we gave him food. Community Healthcare also checked him and found no problem with his mental health,” Surya explained.
He was sent to Badung Social Services because they presumed that he was homeless in Bali.
“He just wanted to know the girl. He said he came to Bali with his mother, but his mother left him. His age is 16 years old and we brought him to Badung Social Services he didn’t have any ID,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Head of Bali Province Social Board, Dewa Mahendra, said that the young man had been sent to his hometown already. “We sent him to his hometown on the same day and he has arrived in Padang, West Sumatra,” he said to detik.com on Tuesday.
