A Finnish man, Pitkanen Ville Juhani (36), drowned on Berawa Beach, yesterday, Sunday (18/2/018) at around 5.15 pm. The location was near LV8 Hotel.

Wave conditions were rough, however Pitkanen, according to witnesses, arrived at the beach and directly jumped in the water, without checking the conditions and was immediately hit by large waves.

People on the beach tried to help after he signaled from the water he was in trouble and managed to pull the already unconscious man to the beach.

North Kuta police Sergeant, Ika Prabawa said the victim died at the scene. “Some foreign men tried to help resuscitating the man but his life could not be saved,” Prabawa told reporters.

The man had been staying at Nyoman Guest House, Jalan Raya Pantai Berawa since Monday 12 February.

Pitkanen’s body was taken to Sanglah Hospital.

Further information came from Nusa Bali.
