A fire burnt down the Le Moulin Creperie on Jalan Umalas 1, Umalas, Kerobokan, on Tuesday morning at around 5.30am. This second fire this week in the Seminyak neighbourhood, also burnt out three stores near the restaurant.

The three stores were Sananta Gallery, Kerai Store and Banun Art Shop.

A witness, Taufik, who was working at a convenience store near the restaurant, said to balipost.com that he first saw the fire at around 5.30am. The fire spread quickly and went up the restaurant wall and into rooftop which was made from alang-alang and wood. He screamed out asking for help from local residents, who reported the incident to the fire department.

After getting the call, nine fire trucks arrived at the scene. They arrived at around 5.45am and the fire was completely extinguished by around 7.30am.

North Kuta police also arrived to help the evacuation process and investigate the incident. Meanwhile, the restaurant owner, Frenchman, Ludovic, was still calculating the losses, which were predicted to be around Rp 1.5 billion.

The Head of Badung Fire Department, I Wayan Wirya, said that the police were still investigating the cause of the fire. “We predict that it was caused by an electrical short circuit, but the police are still investigating the incident,” he said to nusabali.com.

It was also reported that a small fire started in the same restaurant the previous day during the afternoon. “They didn’t report the fire to the authorities because the staff were able to extinguish the flames themselves,” said a witness.
