A Chinese tourist was caught at Ngurah Rai Departure Terminal carrying five packets of swiftlet bird nests weighing around 2.5 kilograms and worth approximately Rp 45 million.

According to the Head of Ngurah Rai Customs Office, Himawan Indarjono, swiftlet bird nests are restricted and can’t be exported to the People Republic of China (PRC). Plus the man cannot prove that he is a Registered Swiftlet Nest Exporter (ET-SBW).

The packages were found by authorities using an X-ray machine as the man went through the departure area. “The man didn’t have an export permit, so he was detained,” Himawan explained to balipost.com.

Himawan advised people who want to carry prohibited and limited goods abroad or domestically to complete the permits from the related institutions. “So, when they are checked, there won’t be any problems. In regard to this case, we just secured the evidence and let him continue his journey,” he concluded.
