A British man, Terence David Murrell, 31, was arrested by Ngurah Rai Immigration officers at his room at Kumpi Rooms Hotel on Jalan Mertanadi, Kerobokan on Sunday at around 2am. The man was a fugitive from his country and allegedly fled to Bali when UK police tried to arrest him for illicit drug use and distributing porn.

The Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration, Amran Aris, said that his team arrested the man after they received information from British police about the suspect’s whereabouts. The man’s situation went viral in the British press all last week after media reported that the man was selling explicit videos of himself online to fund an extravagant lifestyle on the island.

Amran also said that his team found 20 porn videos on his mobile phone when they arrested him. “The average duration of those videos was eight minutes,” he said.

According to Amran, the suspect had overstayed in Bali for 151 days. “The man didn’t want to show us his passport, so we searched the room and his passport was found under a pile of clothes. When we checked it, it was discovered that the suspect had overstayed 151 days,” Amran explained to balipost.com.

The man violated Article 78 paragraph 3 of Indonesian Immigration Law no. 6 of 2011. “We could deport him right away because of it, but we are still coordinating with the local police about the fugitive status in his country,” Amran explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of Denpasar Polres Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner Arta Ariawan, explained, “When the suspect was arrested, a pipe, used syringes and steroids were found in the room.”

He also said that Immigration would coordinate with Badung Polres because the suspect was arrested in Badung Polres jurisdiction. “The suspect would be investigated for two cases of illicit drugs and porn. We will collaborate with Badung Polres to investigate the case,” he concluded.
