Six Lumbung-style villas built from wood with alang-alang roofs caught on fire in Pemuteran Tourism Village area, Buleleng last at around 8.45pm. There were no casualties, but damage is estimated to be more than Rp 2 billion.

The burning villas, owned by Irwan Baramuli from Manado, were first noticed by a security guard named Kadek Kertiyasa (31) when he smelt smoke.

Kertiyasa checked and saw a fire inside villa number 4 which was occupied by an Austrian guest named Thomas Picej.

Kertayasa returned to the security post to take an extinguisher and returned to the villa area to put the fire out with the help of housekeeping employees. But the fire was quickly getting larger and spreading to other villas.

“We couldn’t put the fire out, so I told the receptionist to call the manager and the fire department. Fortunately there was no one in the villas at the time as the guests were already out,” Kertayasa said.

The Buleleng Fire Department sent four fire trucks from the Celukan Bawang Power Plant and the Seririt Fire Department.

Buleleng Police Public Relations Chief, AKP Nyoman Suartika, told reporters that from the investigation at the crime scene, the initial suspicion of the cause of the fire was a short circuit in villa number four.

“There were no casualties in the accident, but the initial suspicion of the cause of the fire was because of a short circuit,” AKP Suartika told Timlo.net.
