Ngurah Rai Airport’s security officers detained an Indonesian woman with the initials T.A.B. (28) after she made a bomb joke as her luggage was about to be searched entering the airport.

As reported by Merdeka, the incident happened on Saturday (08/04) at 1pm when the suspect was at the airport for a Wings Air 1840 Denpasar – Malang flight.

As she arrived—and had her bag checked—at the security check point, she made a joke that she was carrying a bomb. The security officers immediately escorted her to the security office for questioning.

“She was detained because she said that she was carrying a bomb,” said Hengky Widjaja, Bali Police’s Head of Public Relations. “But afterwards she claimed that it was all a joke.”

She was then asked by the officers to write a statement that she would never repeat her actions again. “We let her go, but she wasn’t allowed to board her flight to Malang. Her departure was delayed.”

This wasn’t the first time someone made a bomb joke at Ngurah Rai Airport, and Hengky hoped that no one, wherever they are from, will ever make that same mistake again.
