An attempt to smuggled 20,650 pearl lobster (lobster mutiara) from Ngurah Rai were thwarted by the airport’s security officers.
Gatot Perdana, spokesperson from Balai Karantina Ikan Pengendalian Mutu (Fisheries Quality Control Agency), said that thousands of lobster seeds were discovered inside 35 bags, reported Merdeka.com.
“There’s a total of 20,650 lobsters clustered inside one luggage,” said Perdana. “If they were to sell it would amount to a profit of about IDR 2,6 billion.”
He added that the suspect was caught with the lobsters at the first X-Ray scanner at Ngurah Rai’s departure terminal on Friday (31/3) at 5.45pm, and he attempted to escape. “He plans to smuggle it to Vietnam. But the delivery wasn’t equipped with any proper documents. Today we’re going to release the lobsters at Gianyar beach,” Perdana said.
