After being launched in Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta yesterday, the automated airport rail link (or skytrain) might soon find its way to Bali. The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, remarked that the skytrain will be another step to improve services to passengers as well as to add a competitive edge on the international front.

“We will possibly build it in Bali because we plan to increase the number of passengers from 20 million to 40 million passengers [per year],” Sumadi said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Sunday, as quoted by Bali Tribun. He did not, however, add further details regarding the commencement of the project.

He went on to say the importance of quality service in airports since it’s one of the main entries into Indonesia, and he hopes that other airports across the archipelago will offer the same excellence. “We must not stop improving the level of services, to create innovations that will result in customer’s satisfaction,” he added.

Today the skytrain at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is officially in operation, with the first phase route starting from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 (and vice versa) with a rail track that spans 1,700 meters.
